The Winners of the 19th edition of the Central and Eastern European Film Festival Al Este Rouen, 2025
À L'EST COMPETITION
GRAND PRIX : The Grill / La Cocina (Alonso Ruizpalacios)
SPECIAL MENTION : Coup de cœur / Mi Bestia (Camila Beltrán)
Jury : Arthur Galin, Séverine Danflous, Céline Gouel Verdier
Jury’s statements:
The Grill, for being a film of incredible formal audacity; for capturing the corners of Times Square and the joy of the labyrinth and bifurcating paths; for its verbal sparring, the breathtaking performance of its actors, its skies, and its escapes. For its powerful political vision of a world in chaos.
For Mi Bestia, for its light, its sensuality, the face and presence of its young lead actress, its totemic animals, and its art of metamorphosis. For a promising cinema.
SHORT FILM COMPETITION MADE IN NORMANDIE
GRAND PRIX : L'AUTRE (Amélie Ponturo, Axel Mazure Guerrier, Elora Cailly Desprez, Judille Sankari, Lorraine Deneuve, Lou Toutain, Noah Gauthier, Tatia Tkavadze ShKvra)
SPECIAL MENTION : ARNÉO (Jean Monville)
Jury : Stéphane Landais, Marine Léveel, Marie Leudet
Jury’s Statements:
First of all, we would like to thank the Al Este festival for inviting us to take on the difficult task of serving as the jury for the Made in Normandie short film competition. We were deeply impressed by the quality of this selection, and choosing a single winner was no easy feat, as the proposals were all so compelling.
Before announcing the winning film, we would like to award a Special Mention to the film Arnéo by Jean Monville, which we found to be particularly accomplished and successful. Both in form and substance, the director explored the fantastic genre with great talent, addressing a serious subject with remarkable sensitivity.
Our choice fell upon a film that struck us with the strength of its message, its astonishing mastery, and the way it succeeds in being simple, precise, and inventive all at once. We were also moved by its production conditions and the freshness of its creators. Therefore, as a gesture of encouragement and congratulations, we have decided to reward this film for the artistic and technical achievement it represents, for its extremely touching sincerity, and for its collaborative success.
We award the Best Norman Short Film Prize to L'autre, directed by Amélie Ponturo, Axel Mazure Guerrier, Elora Cailly Desprez, Judille Sankari, Lorraine Deneuve, Lou Toutain, Noah Gauthier, and Tatia Tkavadze.
